Postdoctoral Researcher

Crops For the Future (CFF) is the world’s first and only centre dedicated to research on underutilised crops for food and non-food uses. CFF research focusses on agricultural biodiversity to enhance agricultural systems and their sustainability, address changing climates, and improve food and nutritional security and economic well-being, especially of the poor.

We We have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Researcher position to support the desktop project on shade tolerant legumes.  The study involves tasks to review literature, databases and expert advice. Two post-graduate interns have been appointed to begin the process of collecting information on current practice in Malaysian oil palm plantations and other plantation systems. The appointed postdoctoral researcher would come in and coordinate/manage their work for a further two months. This position outlives the post-graduate position and it is expected that the post-doc will consolidate, integrate and report on the overall project. In the event of continued funding, this said position would also lead in the collection of available germplasm for practical testing work in Phase 2. The project is in collaboration with Sime Darby Research (SDR) and the role of the post-holder will be link to expertise from SDR to inform the possible options which would be commercially viable at large scale.
Job responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be required to provide essential support with task-to-finish roles for the project and be expected to deliver tangible results during the course of his/her tenure. 
Responsibilities will include the following:
1. Conduct literature reviews, collect and analyse data in an organised manner;
2. Develop database and maintain accurate records of data gathered;
3. Attend project meetings as necessary and may require travelling;
4. Provide consistent updates to the Project Manager and supervisor;
5. Manage and coordinate the work of the undergraduate interns for the period of overlap;
6. Develop the full report based on the findings for the study and to present the research results in appropriate forums (internal and external);
7. Assist Project Manager and supervisor as needed on other related project tasks.
8. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Project Manager or supervisor.

1. A PhD with background in Plant Science, Plant Genetics, Plant Taxonomy or Crop Physiology/Agronomy;
2. Good presentation and writing (including scientific writing) skills in English and good Bahasa Malaysia would be an advantage
3. Strong literature research skills
4. Strong organisational skills with an ability to prioritise time-sensitive assignments
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills
6. Outgoing personality with outstanding interpersonal skills
7. Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to be extremely effective while working
